2014 Jul 8

Four Notre Dame of Maryland University Swimmers, including Morgan Wheaton of Cape May, NJ earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors for their classroom performance during the 2013-14 academic year. Juniors Jessi Duffy (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Morgan Wheaton (Cape May, N.J./Cape May Tech), sophomore Emily Jordan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and freshman Margaret Pedersen (Brick, N.J.) each earned atleast a 3.3 grade point average over the full year. Besides success in the classroom, these four also accomplished many things in the water. Duffy placed in the finals in the events at the ODAC Championship meet, placing in the 100 yard backstroke and the 500 yard freestyle. She took home 11th place in the 1650 yard freestyle. Wheaton took advantage of Notre Dame's study abroad program, causing her to miss the second half of the swim season, but made contributions early in the season as her two first place finishes in the team's meet with College of New Rochelle propelled the team to their first dual meet victory of the season. Jordan highlighted her season by reaching the award stand at the ODAC Championships, taking seventh place in the 200 yard backstroke to set a new school record. Earlier in the season, Jordan swam a new school record the 400 yard individual medley. Pedersen culminated her rookie season by being named to the ODAC All-Sportsmanship team. She also was a member of four relay teams that earned points at the championship meet. The Notre Dame swim finished the season with their third straight season with a record of .500 or better by finished 3-3-1 in dual meets.
